Welcome to Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services (RRCS)

Public Hearing

Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services in Culpeper, Virginia provides transportation services for elderly and disabled individuals in Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock counties. RRCS transports individuals to and from rehabilitation programs, outpatient services, nutrition programs and other services operated by RRCS and private providers. Funds are being requested from the Commonwealth of Virginia to purchase four 15-passenger body-on-chassis vehicles with wheelchair lifts and one modified minivan with a wheelchair ramp through the FTA Section 5310 Program. These vehicles will be used to transport wheelchair and ambulatory participants to and from residential, day support and senior nutrition programs as well as medical appointments. We invite any interested public or private transit or paratransit operator within Planning District 9 to comment on the proposed services by sending a written notice by February 1, 2019 to the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation, Public Transportation Division, 600 E. Main Street, Suite 2102, Richmond, Virginia 23219 and to the Executive Director, RRCS, P. O. Box 1568, Culpeper, Virginia 22701. RRCS is an equal access and opportunity organization.

Our History

In 1972, the local governments of Planning District 9 (Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange, and Rappahannock) formed the Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services Board. At this same time, the Planning District Commission recommended that the newly formed Community Services Board also provide services under Title III of the Older Americans Act. These events formed and created a combined area agency on aging and community services board – a unique organization at its inception and it continues to be the only such combines agency in Virginia. Its combined statutory mission rests with its Area Plan for Aging Services (Federal Older Americans Act), and Virginia Code 37.1 through its Performance Contract with the Virginia State Department of Behavioral Health and Disability Services.

In 2011, we updated our name to “doing business as” Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services (RRCS).
