Substance Use Disorder Services:
Substance Use Disorder Outpatient Services

A substance use disorder is a devastating illness, affecting not only the individual, but family and friends. A substance use disorder is present when a person’s use of alcohol or other drugs continues despite problems it causes in major life areas: personal, social, familial, medical, and/or employment. Services start with a thorough evaluation. Treatment recommendations are made based on the results of the evaluations. Treatment recommendations may include the following services:

Motivational Enhancement Therapy
This model group is based not on defining the problem but on the readiness for change in the client. Its focus is on how people change and the stages they progress through as they accept and take control over their substance use.

Individual Psychotherapy
This service is offered to clients who have disorders which preclude their involvement in group therapy (e.g., active psychosis, cognitive problems, severe social phobia, and medical problems).

Education Groups
These groups are designed for clients who meet the DSM-IV criteria for a substance use disorder rather than dependence. They combine group process with information designed to assist the client in evaluating his substance use. The curriculum utilizes the Matrix Model program and reflects an emphases on cognitive behavioral theory.

Women’s Alternatives
This is an intensive outpatient program for chemically dependent women. This first phase is for 30 sessions and meets 3 days a week for 3 hours a day. Phase II meets once a week for 10 sessions and focuses on relapse prevention.

Drug Screening
Clients may be screened for substance use (via urine screens and mouth swabs) on a random basis or as clinically indicated.

Acupuncture
Auricular acupuncture is available as an adjunct to individual or group therapy. It is currently provided for some outpatient groups and Women’s Alternatives.

Case Management
Outpatient staff coordinates client needs (e.g. housing, vocational, and medical) with multiple services providers within the agency and in the community.

Substance Use Disorder Services offers treatment to persons of any age who meet DSM-IV criteria for a substance use disorder or substance dependence or who have exhibited anger management issues related to substance use. A high percent of our clients are dually diagnosed, having significant behavioral health problems in conjunction with primary drug and alcohol problems. Clients exhibiting signs of physiological withdrawal are referred to detoxification services.

ACCESS: RRCSB-AAA provides a friendly, effective, and efficient way to bring persons into the appropriate level of clinical services with regard to their preferences, clinical needs, and financial considerations. When an inquirer calls one of our clinics to request outpatient services, he or she is immediately connected by phone or in person to an Access Clinician who provides a brief needs assessment, collects necessary demographic and financial information, and offers an overview of how and when our outpatient services will begin. The clinician determines whether the person requires emergency, urgent or routine outpatient services and links the inquirer to the appropriate level of care. Such linkage may involve referral to our services or to other private providers or community services. The clinician links the inquirer to our Reimbursement staff who verifies and authorizes insurance coverage or establishes a fee for services and contacts the person to schedule outpatient services.
